Randolph William Louis “Rudy” Giuliani served as Mayor of New York, the largest city in the United States, during the darkest time in the city’s, and nation’s history. Taking office January 1, 1994, Giuliani was mayor during the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. His reaction to that horrible attack has been viewed by many as one of the best crisis-management cases the country has ever seen. However, his legacy as mayor is not limited to his actions following 9/11. He is also known for his tireless crusade against New York’s organized crime, and corrupt businesses. He is credited for bringing organized crime boss John Gotti to justice.
Giuliani’s image as being tough on crime launched him into a career in politics. As mayor of New York, he gained a reputation as a no-nonsense, tough guy that was able to get things done. His response to the crisis on September 11 earned him Time Magazine’s Person of the Year recognition for 2001. He was also knighted by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth in 2002Born into an Italian-American family in Flatbush, New York on May 28, 1944, his father had organized crime ties, which influenced him greatly as a child. His early education consisted of Catholic schools. He considered a career as a Roman Catholic priest for a time. He eventually graduated from Manhattan College as a political science major. He then attended the New York School of Law, and became an attorney.
During the days following the 9/11 attack, Giuliani made his presence known. He took to the media on a daily basis reassuring New Yorkers that the situation was in control, and that the city will recover, and become stronger than ever.
Although he has been heralded for his response during the September 11 attack, he was previously criticized for ignoring the Islamic threat of terrorism in light of the World Trade Center bombing of 1993.

Without you knowing the right reasons before going into marriage, you will end up with the wrong man and begin to cry “how which I knew”. LEGEND—Bob Marley composed the iconic anthem ‘One Love’
Members of the Marley family, including Stephen, Cedella, and Skip Marley, recently launched a reimagined version of the late Bob Marley’s iconic anthem ‘One Love’ to support Unicef’s work for children affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
The song, released on July 17 2020 by Tuff Gong International and Amplified Music Limited and available on all major streaming platforms, was recorded by the Marley family in response to a call by Unicef to help reimagine a fairer, more just world for children whose lives have been upended by the pandemic, and to honor the late Bob Marley.
Some of the acts featuring in the song include Stephen Marley, Cedella Marley, Skip Marley, Ghetto Youths Foundation, Kim Nain, Manifesto JA, Teeks, 249Too Dope, Amrit Kaur, Mermans Mosengo, Jason Tamba, Natty, Dawtas of Aya, Raja Kumari, Patoranking, Babsy and Damascus Voice.
“‘One Love’ was written as a call for global solidarity at a time when the world was very divided, much as it is now. And yet, only by uniting with one love and one heart can we defeat this virus, protect our children, and make the world a more just and equal place,” Cedella Marley said.
True to the message of global unity in the song, the video is a compilation of footage from all around the world including children from Ghetto Youths Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Stephen, Damian and Julian Marley, The Dharavi Dream Project in India; artists from Manifesto Ja in Jamaica and Road To Freedom and featuring appearances by the artists, as well as Indian actor and Unicef celebrity advocate, Kareena Kapoor Khan and British actress Lena Headey.
Covid-19 pandemic has upended the lives of children around the world and exposed rampant inequalities both within and among countries.
In response, Unicef has launched Reimagine — an urgent appeal to governments, the public, donors and the private sector to support its efforts to respond, recover and reimagine a world currently besieged by the pandemic.
“‘One Love’ is one of the world’s most iconic solidarity anthems. But it is also a song about children, and their hopes and dreams for a better, more united and equal world,” Unicef Executive Director Henrietta Fore, said.
Fore said today, in the midst of a global pandemic, responding to Bob Marley’s call to ‘hear the children crying one love’ was more important and relevant than ever.
All proceeds from the song and related activities will directly support Reimagine and help Unicef respond to the immediate needs by providing soap, masks, gloves, hygiene kits, protective equipment and life-saving information for children and families as well as support near term recovery efforts.
The first video performance of ‘One Love’ by the Marley family aired during a One Love Livestream Show on Unicef’s TikTok account on July 18 2020.—unicef.org
